Would you like to get to experience a seat-of-your-pants show that has never been seen before?

The image shows a stage with a group of performers in colorful costumes, some with exaggerated wigs and accessories, performing in front of a black backdrop. There is a large overlay text that reads 'Spontaneous Broadway at the MOPCO Improv Theatre www.mopco.org'.

With Spontaneous Broadway™ at Mopco Improv Theatre, you get all of that and more, and you get it all for less than 20 bucks!

How It Works

Four actors on a stage, two sitting on chairs and two standing behind them, engaged in a comedic scene. The woman in the center is laughing with her hand on her chest, while the man to her left appears to be talking to her. The woman to her right is watching attentively, and the man behind them has a serious expression with hands on hips. The setting includes a dark background and a colorful flag partially visible on the right.

Act II
Another Opening, Another Never-Before-Seen Show!

The improvisors work their magic, turning the chosen song into the inspo for a full-blown musical, complete with lots more songs made up on the spot, a plot, costumes, props, dances, set pieces, and a thrilling reprise of the made-up musical number from Act 1 that inspired the show.

Act I
You Suggest —> They Sing!

Audience members — maybe you! — suggest song titles and the Mop & Bucket Company improvisers take the suggestions and, with the help of the Mopco accompanist on keyboards, instantly launch into singing an original musical number from a show that doesn’t exist.

The audience hears all these creations and then votes on their favorite. Then it’s intermission, and the audience gets psyched for the musical they will soon be seeing!

About the show

The premise:

The show is hosted by renowned (and fictional) Broadway producer Mick Treadwell. Treadwell has a problem — he can’t make up his mind which show to present! So he arranges a backer’s showcase for deep-pocketed investors (that’s you, the audience) that will feature songs from musicals that might be the next Broadway hit. That’s when the improvisers go to work, using audience suggestions to instantly create and perform improvised numbers from these “great musicals” that have not yet been written.

A man wearing a suit, glasses, and a blue scarf is standing on a stage with a black background, holding a cigar in his right hand and gesturing with his left hand.

Real Benefits Over Real Broadway? Yes, And… Check Them Out:

  • A Broadway show costs a lot more. Spo Bro is less than $20; Broadway often starts at more than 10X that.

  • Broadway has nosebleed seats — where you sit so far away the air is thinner and the actors look like specks. At Mopco you are guaranteed a seat in the first 4 rows because we don’t have any more rows!

  • On Broadway you might see a show that’s been running forever. But at Spo Bro, you’ll see a show that’s been running for never!

  • Mopco has its own parking lot — there’s no Broadway show that can boast that! Plus our parking is free!

  • Every night is opening night! So you can choose to wear your finest outfits, or just wear sweats… it’s up to you!

  • Concessions: We’ve got a great snack bar stocked with cookies, popcorn, candy… and if you’re thirsty? Well a glass of wine at a Broadway show might mean you need to take out a second mortgage. At Mopco? Our drinks range from $3 to $8. Sure, we don’t have a souvenir cup, but that’s because our musical is made up—on the spot!
